Special Education

Lanier County Schools offers a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) to all children, ages 3-21, who reside within the school system boundaries and who are identified as having a disability. We are committed to providing instruction for all students with disabilities to ensure they achieve their optimal potential. To the degree that it is possible, our goal is for all students to be included in the regular education program and to gain the necessary skills to be successful with independent living and employment as they reach adulthood.

If it is suspected that a student may have a disability and evidenced based interventions have been used, an appropriate evaluation is completed by Lanier County Schools. After completing the evaluation, an appropriate placement committee meets to review all pertinent data and determine if the student has a disability based on Georgia Department of Education Rules and Regulations. If the child qualifies for Special Education services, and the parent/guardian consents to services, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed.
